From Idea to Reality: Re:Wired Becomes a CIC

Having a great idea is one thing—turning it into something real is a whole different story. It’s exciting, daunting, and at times completely overwhelming. But here we are, making it happen.

Why We Chose a CIC

After a lot of thought, conversations, and Googling late into the night, James and I decided that the best structure for Re:Wired was a Community Interest Company (CIC). Since the arcade side will generate income, this route just made the most sense.

Setting up as a charity with a trading arm would have meant extra costs, overheads, and red tape—not to mention even more paperwork. A CIC gives us the flexibility to generate revenue while staying firmly rooted in community benefit.

Filing the Paperwork

I took on the task of drafting our Articles of Association (yes, there was a lot of coffee involved), and we submitted our registration to Companies House over the weekend of 10th May 2025.

To my surprise, just a few days later—on Tuesday 13th May—we got the confirmation: we’re officially a CIC. I genuinely thought it would take weeks, not days!

Now the Real Work Begins…

Right now, we’ve got the paperwork done, but that’s about it. We’ve no capital, but we’re running on passion and potential. I’ve started building this website, and submitted a few grant applications to test the waters and get some feedback.

Alongside that, I’ve been picking up bits of retro tech and classic consoles wherever I can—anything to start building the foundations of what will become the museum side of Re:Wired.

What’s Next?

This is just the beginning. Now comes the longer journey:

  • Securing funding
  • Finding supporters
  • Recruiting volunteers
  • Building partnerships
  • And sharing this vision with the community

We want Re:Wired to be something the people of Teesside can be proud of—and feel part of. It’s not just my project, or James’s—it’s a space we’re building together, for everyone.

If you’re reading this and want to be involved—whether as a supporter, donor, volunteer, or just someone cheering us on—thank you. Every bit of encouragement matters.

Let’s make this happen.
